How Does Tirzepatide Work?
Tirzepatide works by mimicking natural hormones in the body to regulate appetite and glucose levels. It stimulates insulin production in response to elevated glucose levels, reduces glucagon secretion, creating a feeling of fullness and reducing hunger1. Therefore, it allows patients to feel fuller faster and for a longer period of time. It also slows down digestion by reducing the production of stomach acid and therefore slows gastric emptying.
where is tirzepatide sourced from?
- Eli Lilly has the patent on Tirzepatide. The name brand is Zepbound, and Zepbound can be prescribed through standard pharmacies. Zepbound has been on the FDA's list of drug shortages, allowing compounding pharmacies to make a generic version, for the time being. We do not know how long the drug will be available through compounding pharmacies. The cost of Zepbound has been prohibitive for most patients, if the drug is not covered by insurance. Insurance rarely covers weight loss unless one has other medical problems.
- 503B Compounding pharmacies: there are approximately 70 or so 503B FDA-certified compounding pharmacies in the United States. These pharmacies must follow the same standards as pharmaceutical manufacturers, and are the only pharmacies that can provide compounded drugs to doctors and hospitals. At our clinic, we are surcing tirzepetide from an FDA-approved 503B compounding pharmacy.
- 503A compounding pharmacies: these compounding pharmacies are not inspected by the FDA and the quality and purity of the drugs they produce cannot be fully guaranteed. These pharmacies must dispense directly to the patient, and cannot be used by doctor's office or hospitals.
- Illegal suppliers: there are versions of any drug that are NOT FDA TESTED or APPROVED. These drugs are readily purchased on the internet illegally. Beware of any weight loss program offering these illegal and potentially very dangerous drugs.

safety & side effects
Tirzepatide has undergone rigorous clinical trials to ensure its safety and effectiveness. Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Serious side effects are rare but can include thyroid tumors and pancreatitis.
Who are NOT candidates for Tirzepatide?
Tirzepatide is not suitable for everyone, and there are specific conditions where its use might not be recommended. Here are some groups who may not be candidates for this medication:
- People With a Personal or Family History of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC): Due to the potential risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, individuals with a personal or family history of MTC should not use Tirzepatide.
- Individuals With Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2 (MEN 2): This medication is contraindicated in patients with this condition.
- Pregnant Women and breast feeding : There is limited data on the use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Due to potential risks to the fetus or infant, it is generally not recommended.
- Patients With a History of Pancreatitis: may not be suitable for those who have had pancreatitis.
- People With Severe Kidney Disease: Caution is advised when considering Tirzepatide for individuals with severe renal impairment.
- It is not known if it is safe for patients under the age of 18.

When will I see the weight loss results?
Many factors contribute, including diet and exercise to complement the injections. Some improvement can be seen as early as 1-2 weeks However many patients see peak results around 12-16 weeks with the average person losing 10% of the initial body weight
What is my time commitment?
The initial consultation is 30-45min depending on medical history. After that each week for the first month will be a 10-15min for questions and the injection. Once you are confident in your injections it will be 15min/month appointment to check-in and adjust your dose to pick up your monthly prescription.
How much does Tirzepatide cost?
Current monthly rate based on the dose needed. Low dose starting at $550/month to high dose a $750/month. This includes your monthly prescriptions, all appointments, and on-call access for questions and concerns. This does not reflect maintenance dosing.
Do you offer Semaglutide options?
At this time we do not. Tirzepatide is more expensive, however the research has shown that it has less side effects and greater overall success with weight loss ( in some studies nearly double!) . We believe it is a better product for our clients.
Are there any side effects from Tirzepatide?
The most common Tirzepatide side effects include abdominal pain, burping, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, fatigue, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hypersensitivity reactions, injection site reactions, nausea, and vomiting, which affects 5% of patients. There are concerns for more serious side effects such as pancreatitis, gastroparesis and kidney disease. People over the age of 65 are more prone to side effects.
Will I need to be on medication forever?
Tirzepatide is a long-term medicine. Our goal is to support you build healthy habits while using the medication so when your ideal weight is achieved you may be able to slowly come off the injections. Patients may find they need maintenance dosing of Tirzepatide if they struggle to keep off the weight.
what happens if tirzepetide falls off the shortage list?
the short answer is that we just don't know. We will continue to offer it as long as it can be done legally and safely.
