Are you looking for a non-surgical way to rejuvenate your skin without extensive downtime and without compromising your natural appearance? At Glow Medispa in Seattle and Kirkland, we offer microneedling to subtly rejuvenate your skin, and we pair this beneficial treatment with growth factors to aid in creating healthier, more beautiful skin from the inside out.
Micro-needling has long been used in the aesthetics industry to gently rejuvenate skin without surgery or downtime. At Glow Medispa, we utilize an automated, pen-like micro-needling tool with multiple tiny needles in a sterile, single-use tip for increased patient safety. This treatment can target multiple skin imperfections, such as:
Not all skin imperfections respond to this treatment. The best way to find out if micro-needling is right for you is to schedule a consultation at our Seattle or Kirkland office.
As the micro-needling device is moved over treated areas, the needles penetrate below the surface to a specific depth, creating microchannels through the epidermis into the dermis where all of the collagen and elastin is. Growth factors from your own blood (PRP) or from a serum are used topically during microneedling, so that the growth factors travel through the channels into the dermis. This process stimulates the production of new collagen, which creates tighter, smoother skin over time. Micro-needling also gently exfoliates and opens up the skin, allowing for better penetration of beneficial products such as growth factors.
Micro-needling is a great way to brighten the skin, diminish pore size, and reduce acne and redness caused by acne. It is also a fantastic way to stimulate collagen production, to keep your skin thick and springy and prevent the normal collagen loss that happens with age.
Many spas offering micro-needling merely use hyaluronic acid as a glide. At Glow we always use growth factors with micro-needling to enhance results. This growth factor serum absorbs below the skin surface, stimulates collagen production and aids in the skin healing process. Growth factors can help aid in improving circulation below the surface, restoring a youthful glow to the skin. While micro-needling is a safe and effective standalone treatment, growth factors can help enhance results.
Micro-needling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) is also called a PRP Facial. The big advantage of undergoing a blood draw for this procedure is to use the natural growth factors circulating in your own blood. The magic of PRP and PRFM is that it can be reinjected into the skin to produce a more robust result than with micro-needling alone. We can use these products to rejuvenate any part of the face, but we especially like it for the under-eye area. Because PRP and PRFM are triggering collagen production, the results are much longer-lasting that that of fillers.
The procedure takes about an hour. The skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is used to numb the area being treated for about 30 minutes, followed by the microneedling treatment.
The skin will be red and mildly swollen after the procedure. The redness will fade over the next 1-2 days. Sunblock should be applied immediately after treatment (UVA/B, >SPF30) and should be used consistently during healing. Avoid petroleum products such as aquaphor, neosporin, etc, as they promote acne break-outs. Over-the-counter skin care products often can contribute to poor healing and acne. It is always best to use the recommended products post-procedure to avoid this as much as possible. Break-outs can be treated with prescription topical clindamycin if necessary. Thankfully, acne breakouts after microneedling are rare. Avoid swimming, strenuous activity, exercising and sun exposure for 24 hours. Hydrocortisone is discouraged due to side effect of hirsutism and epidermal atrophy. If there is any itchiness a topical benadryl cream can be used.
Micro-needling is a popular aesthetic treatment due to its ability to target skin imperfections at the source with minimal risk of complications. Most patients are able to return to normal activities with only slight flushing or reddening of the skin, which typically fades within a few days. Dr. Dee, Dr Otto and our medical team will let you know what you can expect as well as if multiple sessions may be necessary to create the best results for your condition.
Usually there is mild redness only for about 24 hours. Most people are completely healed within a day or two.
We recommend micro-needling about three times a year for maintenance and prevention of collagen loss from aging.
This depends on what type of micro-needling is being done. If microneedling with growth factors is being done for acne or redness from acne, then results can be seen within only a few weeks. Most micro-needling with growth factors is done for collagen maintenance and prevention. Though this is a critical part of anti-aging, there are minimal visible results from this. More powerful treatments like a PRP Facial or Genius RF Microneedling are needed to see dramatic results.
Micro-needling stimulates collagen for about 4-6 months. Your body then breaks down collagen at about 1-2% per year, so any collagen you build does last a long time. It is estimated that you have to do about three procedures per year to make up for the 1-2% natural breakdown.
Micro-needling costs range from around $200 to $800 per session. Make sure you are getting micro-needling with Growth Factors, and not just a hyaluronic acid glide for best results. At Glow Medispa, our price is $450 with discount packages available.
